Joanne Richardson (Romania/US/Germany)


  Joanne Richardson is a media theorist and video artist currently living in Berlin. She completed an M.A. in philosophy at New York University, and postgraduate studies in critical theory and film & video at Duke University. From 2002-2009, she was the co-founder and director of D Media (www.dmedia.ro), a Romanian NGO active in the intersections of art, activism and new technologies. Editor of Subsol webzine and of two books on digital culture: Anarchitexts: Voices from the Global Digital Resistance (Autonomedia Press, NY, 2003) and Geert Lovink: Cultura Digitala (Idea Press, Cluj, 2004). She has written essays on the history of the avant-gardes, experimental film and video, net.art, tactical media, intellectual property and the myth of authorship. Her videos reflect an interest in globalization, nationalism and post-communism, and manifest a critical perspective on the relation between images, history and memory. Her work has been presented at: Moscow Biennale, Istanbul Biennale, Transmediale (Berlin), Kunstraum Kreuzberg Bethanien (Berlin), NGBK (Berlin), Rotor (Graz), MACBA (Barcelona), Overgaden (Copenhagen), Center for Contemporary Art (Vilnius), Kumu Art Museum (Tallinn), Ludwig Museum (Budapest), HDLU (Zagreb), Kontekst Gallery (Belgrade) ....
