TOMISLAV GOTOVAC was born in 1937; studied film at the Faculty of Dramatic Art in Belgrade (1967-76). Since the early 1960s, Gotovac has made numerous actions, performances, collages, photographic series, and experimental films. His "stucturalist" films of the 1960s, including Circle and Straight Line, are pioneering works, predating North American experiments in this direction. His first action/performance "Showing the Elle" was in 1962. In the 1970s Gotovac made several public actions in the streets, including "Zagreb I Love You," in which he ran naked through the streets, kissing the ground. Through his concept "Paranoia View Art" and his works spanning several decades, Gotovac equates reality with art.
